David Nguyen, C.E.T

Engineering Technologist

David brings over 14 years of experience in industrial and utility sectors, with a strong technical foundation in substation layout, civil/structural design, and municipal development permitting. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) and longtime ASET member, holding a diploma in engineering design and drafting technology from NAIT.

Throughout his career, David has taken on increasing levels of technical responsibility, from drafting and 3D substation design to leading layout standards and execution planning for major transmission projects. At ATCO Electric, he served as technical lead for substation primary design on Enbridge ACE projects, managed transmission engineering layout standards under the TCDF standardization initiative, and coordinated field change notices and bills of materials for construction teams.

More recently, his work with the City of Edmonton has broadened into GIS mapping, environmental project intake, and permitting, reflecting his comfort moving between utility-scale infrastructure and municipal development processes. He’s proficient across AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and structural analysis tools, including S-frame, STAAD Pro, and PLS CADD.

David is known for mentoring junior designers and coordinating across multiple disciplines to keep projects on schedule and in compliance with code. That range from technical drafting to project execution to regulatory navigation means CANEIL clients get someone who can move a project from concept through to the field without losing momentum along the way.
